It's funny how major holidays and events revolve around large quantities of meat. Thanksgiving has turkey. Christmas has prime rib. Easter has ham. Every holiday has a specific meat that is the centerpiece to the holiday feast. In the world of farming, the end of harvest and seeding deserves a huge celebration. Our choice of meat is barbequed pork.
I've roasted and grilled ribs, but slow cooking ribs is my favorite and most fool-proof method of cooking spare ribs. The entire rack of ribs doesn't fit in the crock-pot as is, so all you have to do is break them down into smaller sections, season them with your spice of choice and then let them do their magic for 4-5 hours. After that amount of time, you get this wonderful vision of beauty....
Then you just add your sauce of choice and let the powers of the slow-cooker continue to do their thing. Serve these glorious, fall-off-the-bone ribs with your favorite coleslaw, mac salad, potato salad, cornbread, etc. and have the most wonderful BBQ feast!
Crock-Pot BBQ Spare Ribs
- 1 (2-3 pound) Rack of Spare Ribs
- 2 tablespoons of your favorite BBQ Seasoning
- 12 ounces of your favorite BBQ Sauce
Section the rack of ribs into 4-rib pieces with a sharp knife. Then pat down the ribs with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Sprinkle your favorite BBQ seasoning over both sides of the ribs and use your fingers to rub the seasoning into the ribs. Place the ribs into a greased crock-pot. Cook the ribs on HIGH for 4-5 hours.
After 4-5 hours, drain the juices that have accumulated from the ribs in the bottom of the crock-pot. Add your favorite BBQ sauce to the crock-pot and toss the ribs to coat using a pair of tongs. Cook the ribs for an additional 1-2 hours. Serve with slaw, cornbread, or your favorite salad and enjoy!
